What I Did For Fun

Here's something goofy I did when I was a kid.
I'd stare at the lamp through red cellophane for a minute.  When I removed the plastic and looked away, the world was greenish!  I could pretend I was visiting a magic green world.  Or that the regular world had a "Green Curse".
It worked with other colors too.  Green plastic caused a red tint.  Blue made orange (and vice versa), and yellow made purple.
I had a lot of fun.

I did something very similar with 3-D Glasses when I was a kid. One lens was blue the other was red. I'd wear them for a few minutes then take them off and hold my hand over one of my eyes.

I'm now thinking I need to get me some yellow cellophane.

Hi RHSteeleOH,
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only kid who did stuff like that.

Another thing that's fun to do with a little piece of transparent red plastic: Write secret messages that no one can read (unless they have a piece of red see-thru plastic). Did you ever do this? You scribble like crazy in red ink, then in tiny black ink you can write your real message or draw your picture. It just looks like a big mess. Then when you put the red plastic down on top of it, it cancels out all the red, and the tiny black message stands out loud and clear. TA-DA!

Hi Linda,
I don't think I've heard of the red ink trick. I do remember being fascinated how red objects looked so much lighter when viewed through a red filter.

Thanks, Sally.

I used to make hand-painted store window signs (before the store went out of business) on fluorescent paper. After a few hours of working on gigantic sheets of day-glo red or pink or green, everything looked weird! At first, I was afraid it might be permanent!

Pile Girl,
That's funny! I can imagine how those ultra-bright colors would temporarily mess up your eyes- especially if you were looking at them all day.
