"You're Doing it Wrong!"

If a snotty critic or know-it-all snob says or implies that you're "doing it wrong!" because s/he finds it weird, ugly, offensive, obnoxious, sloppy, crazy etc...  ...it's often a sign that you're on the right track.

I have become increasingly hypersensitive to know-it-alls in my environment and want to steer clear of them.

They're remarkably annoying, aren't they?
Yet so many things considered classics had critics (high and low) squawking about how atrocious (or offensive, or tacky) they were.

I completely empathize with this post. In the computer field you're guaranteed one of these persons per every 25 IT guys or programmers, almost as though its a law of computing.

Not so related to your post... when you get home from work, try "you're doing it wrong" in Google image search.

Even with Google SafeSearch enabled (recommended), the results should give you a good laugh with how far this phrase has gone as an internet meme for captioning pictures (similar to "FAIL" and "OWNED").

Do you work with someone like this? I'm a pacifist but lemme at him, I wanna clobber him. (or her!)

Hi Ghostbuild
I bet there's "You're doing it WRONG!" types to be found well beyond the arts. So irritating.
I have a theory that the more nasty the criticism is, the less valid.

Thanks Linda.
Don't worry, this isn't about anything that's happening to me (at work or otherwise).
I'd recently noticed a few cases of quality cartoons being attacked on the internet (where else?) for petty (or ignorant) reasons.
Yet so many things considered classic today got a lot of grief when they debuted. Disney's Fantasia or Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, for example.
