Weird without Trying.

Critic Namowal: I told you it was a dumb idea! Didn't I? Didn't I?

Loser Namowal: It was worth a try!

Critic Namwoal: And it gets better. Not only was it a bad idea, but you botched it! I'm not sure how this was botch-able but you found a way. Amazing.

Loser Namowal: I did my best.

Critic Namowal: "Your best?" Fat lot of good that did! Might I add you made a fool out of yourself? Why don't you just write "weirdo" on your forehead?

Loser Namowal: I don't wanna be a weirdo. I'm not trying to be a weirdo!

Critic Namowal: That's the problem with you. You're weird without trying.

I have the same problem.

But you must provide more details of this particular "dumb idea!" It's too intriguing--we must know.

Are these your animations (not sure if you do animation or not?)

What happened?

Hi Linda and stray g,
I'd love to post details, but to be safe I'd better keep this off line. Don't worry, the picture is more interesting than the real story.
p.s. to Linda,
Glad to know I'm not the only "weirdo" on the block.
Hi Eamon,
I'm not a professional animator, but I draw the pictures for this blog, and have a section of Flash animations I do under the "Animated Stuff" category.

Critic Namowal's way too hard on Normal Namowal. I will come and whack Critic upside the head.

Hi BoodaBaby,
Yes, Critic Namowal is over the top. Part General Patton, part drama queen, and 100% hot air.

Namowal, you're in the company of weirdos, and we like it that way.

Most people in authority (editors , suits etc) are suspicious of artwork/ concepts that don't resemble what they already know is cute/hip/acceptably weird. This is just how it goes. I've been through this so many times.

Thanks, Sally,
It is funny how the suits shy away from anything out of the box, considering each hit (or classic) thing usually is (or at the time was) a departure.

Critic Namowal is simply mean. Has she ever said anything constructive?

I used to have nightmares 80% of nights until I was 13 years old. Since 13, I have had a grand total of ten nightmares.

I didn't realize when I was young, but some faction of my psyche got a rush from generating imagery that frightened me. Kind of like the thrill of a carnival ride. Then it would go too far and I'd generate images so scary I'd wake up and cry.

After I realized this, thought about it critically, I got all the bits of my psyche to stop being so insolent and all of my dreams have cooperated since.

Id you think critically (pun) about what drives Critic Namowal to be so mean, perhaps you can steal her thunder and convince her to become a more constructive (and probably more seamless) part of your persona? :)

Interesting concept, Jesse. I never thought about what motivated the critic to be such an ass. That being said, I can usually deflate her like this- I'll write down the accusations and then critically pick them apart, noting where she's exaggerating, overgeneralizing, name calling and other theatrics that sound nasty but aren't supported by any evidence. This usually shuts her up.
