Hermit Crabs

When I was little we had pet hermit crabs: Edgar and Allan.
They were slow moving, mellow creatures. My brother and I spent hours building Lego houses and mazes for them to explore.
One day I made the mistake of holding Edgar in the palm of my hand. Guess what happened?

Hi RHSteeleOH,
Guess who pinched me and wouldn't let go? I don't know how I got him off.
At the time I couldn't understand why he'd be so mean. I'd built him a nice Lego fortress and all he could do was pinch me?

We had hermit crabs too...I guess the were quite popular in the 70's.

My older brother had 3 or 4 of them and they were always changing shells. My brother would purchase alternative ones and leave them strewn on the bottom of the terrerium(?) floor for them to squabble over.

Haven't thought about that in YEARS!!!

Thanks as always...

Hi Walterworld,
I looked around on the internet and discovered that people still keep these things as pets, but I don't think they're as popular as they were in the 1970s.
Turns out that they need special conditions to thrive- fresh and salt water to drink, 70% humidity, etc... and can live 10 or 15 years! Who knew?
