Cheshire Cats

The upcoming Alice in Wonderland got me thinking...
Is it just me, or does every interpretation of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass turn into a "Look how mad/wacky/crazy my version is!" project?
Do an image search for "Cheshire Cat." or (any other Alice character) to see what I mean.   He's usually a garish color (purple seems popular), with nutso hair and a psychotic grin.
Does this distract from  the original "weirdness" of the character- the fact that it's a cat who can smile and disappear?

The four panels are fun.

Thanks, Stray.
After I posted this I visited Linda's blog and noticed she'd posted a photo of her artwork (much earlier than this post). One was a bunch of squares of cat heads! Have I committed cryptomnesia!?
Okay, otherwise they're pretty different, but I still wonder- would this post look the same had I not seen Linda's work first?

Namo, I just did an image search for "Cheshire Cat" and I found the BEST OUTFIT. I'm going to try to order it for myself.

I won't wear the fur parts, only the striped suit. Should I cut off the tail?

p.s. I'll call my lawyer and discuss this multiple cat head issue with him--we probably won't press charges.

Hi Linda,
I agree that the cat suit looks better with out the fur. To Chewbaca-esque otherwise.
Thanks for not suing me!

The picture of the "Cheshire Cat" Linda posted totally convinces me that males should never ever dress as cats. It's just not right.

P.S. I'm glad your not being sued.

I don't know much about Alice in wonderland, but it does seem to be true in general of films to get visually bigger, weirder, richer. It's strange that they miss how much we will contribute to the movie if they'll give us a good character or story. As you pointed out, it's really wonderful enough to have a cat that grins and disappears.
