stray's second comment (if I've interpreted it correctly) makes me think of the lab experiment where rats were trained to press a bar to get a goodie. Scientists found the rats were more eager to hit the bar if it only sometimes gave them a reward. The rats hit the bar, the dogs hit the hydrant, and we hit the "check mail" button. Repetedly.

Especially funny since the neighborhood dogs actually use our mailbox....
Lots of e-mail is a lot like d-mail! But I'm just like that dog; can't help checking.
