Ever see anything weird when you're falling asleep? I sometimes do. I've seen patterns, fractal-like structures and, occasionally, very silly things, like the picture above.
It's odd. In they daytime I'm racking my brains trying to come up with a good premise for a short cartoon (and drawing blanks), yet when I tune out and fall asleep I get a sideshow of possibilities.
Too bad I forget most of these "visions."
I'd like my cartoon to take place somewhere unusual- an island, planet, alternate universe etc..
I haven't come up with a good plot yet, but at least I have one inhabitant.
great image, great potential character! I think if you read back through your blog you may find stories there just waiting to be stretched around into something quite new.
ReplyDeleteHowever, having a character like that as your main character could mean more details to be animated than you might like.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sally.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check out my blog for ideas.
I agree that this character would be tricky to animate. She'll only have a bit part.
It's so weird. My best ideas seem to come between 3:30 and 5:30 am. So I take a spiral ring notebook and a ballpoint pen that clips on to the open blank page to bed every night. Ballpoint so in case I fall asleep while writing, the sheet won't be entirely COVERED with ink! Of course sometimes in the morning it's a little hard to read my writing. Stray used to use a pen with a built-in flashlight.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda,
ReplyDeleteI've scribbled a few illegible nightime gems myself. I like stray's flashlight idea. I wonder why the most original stuff rolls in when we're half awake?
I'm always awake between 3:30 and 5:30. My pen finally burned out (drat), so now I try to drag myself into the neighboring bathroom where I can turn on the tiny light over the tub and not disturb Pat too much while I make lists to empty my head so perhaps i might get back to sleep.
ReplyDeleteStray,
ReplyDeleteWhat is it about us being bounced out of dreamland between threeish and fiveish each morning? This happens to me too.
