Here's an experimental head turning animation. It was done using shape tweens (four or five per shape). Each "part" (pupil, eye outline etc) originally had its own layer. Below is an older version, before I tweaked the timing, removed extra lines and added color. Those touches were done frame by frame and took much longer than the animation. The gradient fills are like ceiling glitter. Cool? Tacky? It's a matter of opinion.
Oh hell, Namo. I didn't think you could turn /rotate things using Flash, and now I'm going to have to start turning things. #@&%! I think the gradient fills look great.
I was watching Sally's Island of Emotion...that isn't Flash is it? The hippo-like creature on the innertube when he spins around...I was wondering about that.
I'm not sure how "Island of Emotion" was made. I noticed the spinning hippo too. It would have been easy to just have him floating there, or rocking back and forth. Looks like Sally took the extra effort to take him for a spin!
Hi Ghost, What's this Phong business? This is strictly 2d stuff. I filled each frame with a radial gradient. That being said, some noise would make him more interesting. I'll have to figure out how to animate the
Hi Stray, I'm glad I threw in the gradient. It seems to be a hit. :)
EEK! That is incredibly hard to do. That is amazing. I found out about a new tv show today via google where I think your animating talents would be appreciated right away. Will send the info to you this weekend-- got a busy day tomorrow.
Linda, Island of Emotion was just guessing with poor 3 d skills. Drawn in pencil, inked in tombo marker, xeroxed and painted.

Hey, thanks, Linda,

The Martians are back! \(^o^)/
ReplyDeleteGradient/Phong shading looks too perfect sometimes. Would be nice if hose functions had a noise slider.
ReplyDelete*those* functions, rather.
ReplyDeleteI think the gradient fills look beautiful.

Wow thanks, Sally. I'm sooooooo flattered. :D
ReplyDeleteVery cool. I'm starting to get an idea of how you create some of your work!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mari,
ReplyDeleteI had some books to help me out with the techniques (I can give you a list of books if you'd like) but the drawing and timing are mine.
